Sorry for this late post!!
On 13th November 2021, we had a tree planting event at Montgomery Street Park.
Thanks very much to Montgomery Street Park for the great help organising this event. Thanks to Leith Community Growers for leading the planting, providing tools, and teaching us about trees. Thanks to Maarya Makes from Scottish Forestry for guiding us in a lovely forestry bathing activity and teaching us more about trees and how they communicate. Thanks to Communities for Conservation project, for all the help in finding tools and organising the event. Thanks to Volunteering Matters and Nature Scotland for funding this session and being so helpful during the process, and thanks to Woodland Trust for supplying the trees. Finally, a big thank you to all the hardworking volunteers who brought their green thumb to the event, your help was greatly appreciated!
The plants are a selection of dog rose, crab apple, hazel, blackthorn and more. They will complete the hedge on the north side of the park, against the street.
The completed hedge will:
reduce noise pollution from traffic
reduce air pollution from vehicle exhaust
reduce litter blowing in from the street
improve the biodiversity of our neighbourhood give animals shelter and nesting sites
give animals safe corridors to travel (especially important in the city!)
cooling effect on our planet
reduce our carbon footprint
boost our mental health
